LIPSTICK BLONDES

The Lipstick Blondes, an all female adventure/ski mountaineering team continue to fulfil their dream of big mountain skiing whilst getting new records on the way and encouraging everybody to share their adventure.

We developed the idea of the lipstick blondes partying one night in Brighton. 

Our dream was to combine our passion for challenging sports with love of laughter.

Our first event together was the ‘Saab Salomon X-Adventure’ in 2004 – we were the first and only all-female team in this 2-day endurance event.  We endeared ourselves to the other teams and officials by planting lipstick kisses on everyone we ran, biked, canoed and climbed past and were delighted to be awarded a special prize for having ‘captured the original spirit of adventure racing’.

Later that year, the Lipstick Blondes climbed Aconcagua, at 7000m, the highest mountain outside of the Himalayas.  On the descent, as we staggered and shambled down the scree, a big idea was formed: to ski and board some of the World's highest mountains, ultimately getting ourselves to the top of an 8000m peak.  Over the next few years amidst adventure races, ultra marathons and babies, other mountains such as Elbrus, Denali, and Mustagata were skied.  Then in September this year the time came to realize our dream. 

Cho Oyu at 8201m has been skied by fewer than ten people and no British women, and has never been bum boarded by any body… Ever.  Well, until now…

Suzy Madge is now the first British female to climb and ski an 8000m peak and Squash Falconer is the World’s highest ever bum boarder.

Ski mountaineering is a fabulous sport that combines our love of endurance and adrenaline.  It is a very underexposed sport in the UK, but one that can appeal to anybody that enjoys skiing or snowboarding and simply going out for a day’s walk.  We absolutely love this sport and want to share our passion and encourage others to try it out.  With the films we shoot we aim to ‘demystify’ mountains and show that it is not necessary to possess an ice-encrusted beard to mountaineer.  Our expeditions are full of exertion, exhilaration and laughter.
